Adaptive and Accessible Fitness Equipment Orientation
Have questions about our fitness equipment designed for use by individuals with a disability? Join us for a free session to learn about this equipment. Learn where it is located, how it is adaptable and how to use it. Open to all individuals with a valid UNM ID.  There is no preregistration. Just drop-in anytime on the designated date and time. Meet at the Information Booth located on the Concourse at the East Entrance to Johnson Center. Just tell any staff member you are here for fitness equipment orientation. These sessions are to familiarize you with the equipment. Information about exercise routines and workouts will not be provided.  All sessions are led by a Recreational Services certified Personal Trainer.

Water Exercise
The Excel Adaptive water classes are designed for people who want to get a strenuous workout in a low-impact, aquatic environment. Individuals with chronic physical problems are highly encouraged to come! Deep Water classes are held in the Olympic Pool and warm water classes in the Therapy pool.

If you need access to the Johnson Center\'s pool access doors, you must provide a copy of your current parking permit. If you are UNM affiliated, you can get a dual access therapy card by coming by the main office with your current Lobo Card.

Wheelchair Basketball Open Gym
Johnson Center provides access to individuals and teams wanting to play wheelchair basketball in an open gym format. The schedule and more information can be found here under Recreational Services’ Inclusive Recreation Wheelchair Basketball Downloads. In an open gym format, court time must be shared equally with teams or individuals wishing to play. Individuals may play independently or with a team. Full-court games are not allowed if others are present and shooting at one of the basketball goals. This is open to the public and the University community. There is no charge for teams or individuals to use the facility during Wheelchair Basketball Open Gym time. Please be informed that current UNM students, faculty, and staff that use a wheelchair are eligible to play basketball or use any other facility in Johnson Center during posted recreation hours, they are NOT restricted to using the center just during Wheelchair Basketball Open Gym.
